Taliban Health Minister Urges Transparency and Timely Medicine Delivery in Meeting With UNICEF

Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban’s Minister of Public Health, has emphasized the need for transparent delivery of health services and the timely distribution of medicines to health centers during a meeting with the head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health, on Sunday, June 1, published a statement regarding Jalali’s meeting with Tajuddin Oyela, the UNICEF Representative for Afghanistan.

According to the Taliban’s statement, the discussion focused on the manner of delivering health services by implementing organizations under Taliban administration in Afghanistan, the quality of medications and their timely delivery to hospitals and health centers, joint monitoring for evaluating health services, capacity-building of health personnel, and the establishment of health centers.

Jalali added that serious measures must be taken concerning those health centers that do not receive medicines on time. He also called for transparency in the selection of implementing organizations.

This comes as, under Taliban rule, health centers across various parts of the country have faced challenges such as shortages of medicine and medical equipment. The health sector under the Taliban administration has experienced numerous difficulties over the past three years.
