Taliban Claim $10 Billion Deal Signed for Power Generation Project

The Taliban have announced the signing of a $10 billion memorandum of understanding with Azizi Energy Company for a major electricity production project. According to Bakhtar News Agency, under Taliban control, the agreement was formalized in Kabul on Saturday, 2 August 2025, between the Taliban’s Ministry of Energy and Water and Mirwais Azizi, head of Azizi Energy Company.

The project is expected to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity and will be implemented across various provinces, the Taliban claim. They further assert that it will create job opportunities for thousands of people in Afghanistan, with completion targeted for 2032.

Despite the Taliban’s claims of launching various projects since regaining control, the outcomes of these initiatives have faced consistent scrutiny from the people of Afghanistan, raising questions about their feasibility and impact.
