Six Killed and 13 Wounded in Kabul Suicide Bombing

Six people have been killed and 13 wounded after a suicide bomber detonated explosives in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul. The attack happened on Monday 2 September and has been confirmed by the country’s interior ministry and police.

“Details will be shared later,” spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani told Reuters.

The blast took place in the southern Kabul area of Qala-e-Bakhtiar.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said:

“This afternoon, a person wearing explosives on his body detonated”

“Unfortunately, 6 civilians, including a woman, were killed and 13 others were injured.

“The injured were transferred to hospitals on time and investigations are ongoing.”

Taliban resurgence in 2021 ended two decades of war between foreign forces and Islamic insurgents. Since then, violence in Afghanistan has decreased.

Despite this, Islamic State Khorasan – the regional chapter of Islamic State – is active in Afghanistan. Civilians, foreigners, and Taliban officials are regularly targeted by the group with gun and bomb attacks.
