In a rare statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed hope for the freedom of the Afghan people and the formation of an elected government in Afghanistan.
In a press release issued on Sunday, October 12, the ministry addressed the recent tensions between the Taliban and Islamabad.
The statement concluded: “We also hope that one day the people of Afghanistan will be free and live under a truly representative and popular government.”
These remarks come as relations between the Taliban and Pakistan have entered a new phase of strain, coinciding with Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India.
Pakistan also rejected the comments made by Muttaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, during his visit to India, where he attempted to deny the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, calling his claims baseless.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry emphasized that the existence and free movement of terrorist groups in Afghanistan have been documented in United Nations reports.
It further reiterated that combating terrorism is a shared goal, urging the Taliban to honor their commitments and prevent Afghan soil from being used for terrorist acts against other countries.
