Sources in Khost province report that the Taliban have laid off 120 professors and administrative employees from Sheikh Zayed University, citing staff reductions as the reason. The dismissals were carried out under official orders from the Taliban, sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
According to the sources, the decision is set to be implemented across all faculties of the university. Most of the dismissed faculty members held master’s or doctoral degrees and had been teaching since the former Afghanistan government. Several administrative staff were also affected by the layoffs.
Some of the affected professors told the Hasht-e Subh Daily that their positions at the university had been their only source of income. With their dismissal, they are now facing unemployment and severe financial difficulties.
Sources further indicated that the move primarily targets individuals who served during the Republic era. It is worth noting that the Taliban had previously removed dozens of highly qualified professors from Sheikh Zayed University, replacing them with students from religious seminaries appointed as instructors.
